John Mathias was born 1974 in Maryland and grew up in the Washington DC suburbs of Bethesda Chevy Chase where he attended BCC high school and the Montgomery County Art Center at Einstein High school. He also studied with painting instructor Walt Bartman at the Glen Echo Park art studios beginning in 1987. John earned a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 1996 with a concentration in Illustration. After moving to New York City in 1997 John took on countless illustration, design, cartoon, and art assignments as a freelancer. He writes and produces his own music as well, performing with rock and jazz groups such as Team USA and Flaming Fire. Recently, John and his wife Ellie - a jewelry designer and artist have relocated to the Jersey Shore where landscape inspiration abounds.
